Die Meteoplug-Lösung gliedert sich ein einen lokalen Client basierend auf minimaler Hardware (wie das fast Steichholzschachtel kleine Bifferboard) und einem im Internet gehosteten Server-Dienst. Datenaufzeichnung und Visualisierung werden dort in einem SaaS-Modell zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Visualisierungsmöglichkeiten des Meteoplug-Dienstes gehen weit über die Möglichkeiten des Meteohub-Systems hinaus und die Stromaufnahme des Clients liegt bei nur circa 1 Watt. Der Meteoplug-Dienst enstand in 2010, 2011 wurden die Visualisierung von Live-Daten hinzugefügt. Meteoplug unterstützt dieselben Wetterstationen und Wetternetzwerke wie Meteohub. Meteohub-Anwender können die Daten Ihres Meteohub ebenfalls dem Meteoplug-Serverdienst zur Verfügung stellen und somit das beste aus beiden Welten nutzen: lokal gespeicherte Wetterdaten und die große Vielzahl an Visualisierungsoptionen des Meteoplug-Server-Dienstes.
